Self-care #101 – enjoying a guilt-free afternoon nap.
Hi there, it’s Julia.
I am being kinder to myself today by just having a little nap in the afternoon.
I woke up really early this morning and I often find that having a small afternoon nap – even just 20 minutes will do – it’s like pressing the restart button. And so, if I have been working late at night or if I have been up really early in the morning, I often try and have a little nap, but I haven’t done it for a while, so I’m going to sign off now and shut my eyes for a short while and I’m sure I’ll feel much better later on.
Bye for now.
An afternoon nap to reboot and top up on energy is one of the simplest and kindest things I do for myself. The important thing with an afternoon nap is to take that small amount of time out for yourself TOTALLY GUILT-FREE. No shoulds or coulds… just shut those eyes and rest for a short while. Just be sure to set the alarm if you need to be somewhere (I often take a quick nap just before the school run and then have extra energy after the boys are in bed)… I made the mistake of hitting the snooze button on the first day of term when big boy moved up into Juniors. I ran up that hill so fast pushing small boy in the buggy, but not a good way to start the school year. It has not happened since! Alarm is always on now on school days, but on a quiet weekend, there’s nothing like a little nap in the garden or on the couch after a nice big lunch (preferably roast dinner).
Do you nap during the day or are you early to bed?
I am at my most creative after dark, so an afternoon reboot really enables me to get those creative juices flowing again when all is quiet in the house.
What is your most creative time of the day or night?
Let me know in the comments below… I would love to hear from you.
