As a child, I used to visit my grandparents on a weekly basis. Their garden was one of the many things I loved about being there. My grandad took great pride in his flowers and had a number of beautiful rose beds. When the flowers will in full bloom, I used to push my nose right up close to breathe in the intoxicating scent. When the petals fell, I used to gather them and put them in jars, adding water and crushing up the petals in an attempt to capture those delightful smells. Even now, I rarely pass a rose by without breathing it in.

Acrylic paint and paint pen on canvas, finished with a layer of UV varnish and framed in a narrow white floater frame.
